“Let the spirit flourish and grow; so we will never tire of the struggle.”
César E. Chávez

It has happened!  Lansing, the capital city of Michigan now has an honorary street (dual signs) and a plaza named for the great labor leader, César E. Chávez. This would not have happened without the support of the citizens, unions, and business owners of Lansing and our many supporters from outside of the Lansing area.  We appreciate all the support and attendance on Saturday, October 16, 2010, during and after the procession on Cesar E. Chavez Avenue/Grand River.  The excitement and celebration continued into the César E. Chávez Plaza with speakers, food, music and entertainment. A historic day made right here in Lansing, made possible by you.  As we continue to pursue support for the gateway, which will be erected at the entrance to the plaza, and to help with our community service projects, we are counting on your support. CONGRATULATIONS LANSING!
(Street & Plaza named for César E. Chávez)

On September 13, 2010, the Lansing City Council adopted a resolution for an honorary street (dual signs) and a plaza honoring César E. Chávez.  To complete the plaza, The Chávez Committee will immediately start a campaign to raise funds for a gateway with César's name proudly displayed at the entry. Without the support and determination of many like yourselves, who felt compelled to honor this great humanitarian, our goal could not have been realized.

It is with great excitement and gratitude that we extend an open invitation to the Lansing Community to join us as we celebrate a milestone for Lansing

A celebration in the newly named César E. Chávez Plaza will take place on Saturday, October 16, 2010.  The celebration will start at approximately 10:30 a.m. with a procession down César E. Chávez/Grand River Avenue (commencing at Marshal Park), leading into the César E. Chávez Plaza (corner of Turner St. & César E. Chávez/Grand River).  The festivities will continue in the plaza with keynote speakers, music, dancers, and delicacies from local food vendors.  Please join us for the procession and the festivities to honor César E. Chávez.

Gateway Fundraising Campaign for
César E. Chávez Plaza

The Lansing for César E. Chávez Committee is currently working on a project to erect a gateway into the newly named César E. Chávez Plaza (corner of Turner St. & César E. Chávez/Grand River Ave.). The gateway will proudly display César E. Chávez's name. We hope by including the visual sign with César’s name the gateway will not only give permanence to the plaza but also serve as an educational tool for the community. The plaza could be used for many functions, celebrations, and tours. We believe it will be a great learning tool that will serve to educate, inspire and enlighten those who visit the area.  Fundraising events will take place periodically during the coming year. To help fund this project you may make a donation via this website or you can mail a check made payable to Lansing for César E. Chávez (LCEC) to the address below. Please check our website periodically for dates and times of our upcoming fundraising events. Thank you for your support and participation in this project.
